What is information system

An information system is a collection of software, hardware, and communication networks used to collect relevant data, often inside an organization. Many organizations rely on information technology to execute and manage tasks, engage with customers, and remain ahead of the competition. Some firms, such as eBay, Amazon, Alibaba, and Google, are entirely based on information technology.

  • Hardware - This is the technology's physical component. It comprises PCs, hard drives, keyboards, iPads, and other electronic devices. The cost of hardware has dropped dramatically, but its speed and storage capacity have improved tremendously. However, the environmental effect of hardware consumption is a major worry nowadays.   •  Software - There are two sorts of software: system software and application software. The system software is an operating system that controls the hardware, application files, and other resources while providing the user with graphical user interface (GUI) control over the PC. Application software is intended to help users handle certain tasks. In a nutshell, system software makes hardware useable, whereas application software performs specialized functions.



  • Data - Data is a collection of information that, when collected and organized collectively, may be extremely useful for business operations. Businesses gather all data and utilize it to make decisions that may be analyzed to determine the efficacy of business operations.

IT may be used for both specialized and generalized reasons. A generalized information system, such as a database management system, provides a generic service by assisting in the organization of general forms of data. A specialized information system, on the other hand, is designed to fulfill a specific role for a firm. For instance, consider an expert system that handles complicated issues. These issues are centered on a certain field of study, such as the medical system. The major goal is to provide faster and more accurate service than a human could do on his own.
